CARWIZ rent a car has an office at Split Airport.
Welcome to Split!
Split, the second largest Croatian city is situated on the coast of central Dalmatia, and something special in it makes you come back again and again. If you landed at Split airport, pick up your vehicle at our office there, since it will certainly come in handy for trips to the city as well as excursions to the surrounding areas.
If you have not sat down in one of the cafes on the waterfront, while wearing sunglasses, you have not experienced the true spirit of this city. Here you can relax completely while watching the passers-by with a colourful background of palm trees and the sun-bathed sea, on which ferries slowly sail.
After this obligatory coffee, pass through Marmont street, which houses a perfect blend of the historical and modern: a historical library and reading room for Francophiles, today Alliance Francaise, the first Split Cinema Karaman, a unique fish market with no flies because of the smell of sulphur from nearby spas, art nouveau building Duplančić and Tončić, Venetian bastion, Croatian national Theatre and the church of Our Lady of Health. A contemporary note is given by exhibition spaces, plenty of opportunities for shopping and the Pirja fountain.
Take time to wander the Palace of Diocletian, the largest and best preserved ancient Roman palace in the world. Its basements, streets and squares hide many interesting things, be certain to find a narrow street called “Pust’ me proć’”, a true showcase of history can be experienced on Peristil, from granite pillars of Luxor, across the Gothic palace, Renaissance floors immediately above, to the baroque balconies and Romanesque kampanel. The palace is especially lively, and it holds nice cafes and small hotels that somehow fit perfectly into this historical story.
Enter the Cathedral of St. Duje, one of the smallest and oldest cathedrals in the world, and then pass through the Golden Gate to the statue of Grgur of Nin, grasp his big toe and make a wish.
Split and the islands across it still look best from Marjan lookout, a forest park onto whose top you can walk, while discovering lush vegetation, small churches and the zoo. Marjan is called the lungs of Split, and we are certain that once you breathe in the fresh air at the top, you will be inspired to reexplore this magical city once more
