Rent a car Rijeka

The city of Rijeka is a university city, the most important Croatian port, the third largest city in the Republic of Croatia and the center of Primorsko Goranska County.

One of the most famous streets in Rijeka is Korzo. Since the early 19th century it has become the most famous place of the city and the center of urban life. By the end of the 18th century, there was a pebble sea coast, a shipyard, and a town loggia. Buildings and palaces of different styles began to sprout shortly after covering the defensive dungeon and demolishing the city walls.

Today, many important city institutions are placed here and Korzo is always packed with people.
In the center of the Korzo, there is a City tower with a clock, a favorite meeting place of local people.

Another interesting tower is the Leaning Tower with a church bell of the Church of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was built in the 14th century and it tilted during time due to the sinking of the ground beneath it.

St Vid’s Cathedral is the most significant church in Rijeka. It was built in the place of an older church in the 18th century.

Near the Cathedral, there are the legendary Old gates or the Roman arch. These are not the remains of a Roman arch, as was thought in the past, but the main entrance in the center of a late Roman headquarters of Roman Tarsatica.

One of the most beautiful palaces in town is the Modello palace; similar buildings of the Viennese Ring served as models for this palace.

On a wonderful square, there is a building of the Croatian National Theatre which was established in 1885, and some of the most famous opera singers in the world performed here. Theatre was named after Ivan Zajc, one of the greatest composers and conductors in Croatian history.

On a square called Žabica, there is a Capuchin Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, built at the beginning of the 20th century.

On the same square, there is a Ploech palace, built at the end of the 19th ct. by Annibale Ploech, an Austrian mechanic who got rich from perfecting and producing torpedoes.

Near the Croatian National Theatre, there is a complex made of two pavilions called Velika tržnica (the Great market). As the name itself says, here is a town market, extremely interesting and picturesque.

On the Trsat hill above Rijeka, there is an exceptional medieval building – Trsat hill fort (Trsatska gradina). This medieval fortress is one of the oldest in this region, and there is a magnificent view of Rijeka and its surroundings from the top of the fortress. It also contains a café bar and a souvenir shop. In the summer period, open-air exhibitions and concerts are organized here.

Do not miss a chance to visit this magnificent town.
